We love a hometown parade. Scripps Ranch is a quiet, highly desirable bedroom community located slightly inland. The event typically kicks off right at 10:00 AM.
It offers genuine small-town charm right in the middle of a major city. At exactly 9:00 PM, four massive barges anchored throughout the bay simultaneously launch an incredibly choreographed fireworks show. You can clearly see the show from Shelter Island, Harbor Island, the downtown Embarcadero, and the Coronado Ferry Landing. Theme Park Fireworks: SeaWorld and LEGOLAND

We probably should have dedicated an entire separate guide to this fantastic 4th of July celebration. The events on Coronado Island last the entire day and draw visitors from across the state. The morning begins with a massive, highly traditional parade marching straight down Orange Avenue. The afternoon features a Star Wars Society photo op and four different free concerts held at various venues across the island.
Because Coronado is home to a massive naval base, the military presence is deeply integrated into the celebration. The Naval Leap Frogs parachute team performs an incredible aerial demonstration right over the beaches. At 9:00 PM, the island launches its own fireworks show exploding over Glorietta Bay. Thousands of people lay blankets out on the Coronado Golf Course to watch the show while listening to the simulcast music on the radio.

What time should I arrive to watch the Big Bay Boom fireworks?
Because the show draws hundreds of thousands of spectators, you must arrive very early. Many locals bring tents and claim their spots on the grass at Harbor Island and Shelter Island before noon. If you wait until the evening to drive downtown, you will be stuck in gridlock traffic.
Can we drink alcohol on the public beaches during the holiday?
