The perfect vacation begins and ends with the rental in which you will spend many glorious moments relaxing, playing, and enjoying unhurried time with your favorite traveling companions. The destination is important too, of course, and when your journey brings you to the unparalleled beauty of the greater San Diego area, you have to know that you have chosen well. And because we love our California hometowns as much as we love providing welcoming rentals to our favorite travelers, today, we want to share a few tips on how to fill all those moments of your seven-day journey to our part of the world, ensuring that happiness, excitement, and comfort will be your constant companions. Here’s how to prepare your 7-Day Journey to Greater San Diego Area.
Day 1: Starting Your Day the Delicious Way in Cardiff by the Sea
We have been taught our entire lives that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and during your stay in the tranquil town of Cardiff by the Sea, it will also be the most important day when you devour a hearty meal at Pipe’s Café, located at 121 Liverpool Drive. Offering a casual California vibe without any pretension, their breakfast burritos will add spice to your life and their pancakes never fail to impress.
Day 2: Hanging 10 in Carlsbad
Surfing is to California like hiking the Grand Canyon is to Arizona—it’s just something that everyone should try at least once in their lives—and SoCal Surf Lessons has been the go-to spot for learning the skill for over 15 years. Making learning something new fun, (not that surfing isn’t fun on its own) they teach where the waters are calm and friendly and provide surfboards and wetsuits as a part of the lesson. Give them a call to reserve your spot on the waves!
Day 3: Place Your Bets in Del Mar
From July through September, the Del Mar Fairgrounds offers the chance to watch the most beautiful and graceful creatures cross the finish line, and if you are lucky, make you a winner as they do. Located at 2260 Jimmy Durante Boulevard, Del Mar Racing has been a local tradition for nearly 100 years, and if your journey brings you here during those months, we highly recommend you attend a race. Some of the most famous thoroughbreds in history have stormed this historic track, including the highly acclaimed Sea Biscuit, who won against Ligaroti in 1938, and when you visit the spot “where the surf meets the turf,” you may even be sitting in the very spot where Bing Crosby once sat, as he was once one of the original founders.
Day 4: Walk in the Footsteps of Dr. Seuss in La Jolla
La Jolla is very probably one of the most beautiful cities on Earth and is known as the Jewel of San Diego, offering stunning white sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and temperatures that Goldilocks would approve of, as the weather is rarely too hot, too cold, and is often just right. What you may not know, however, is that it was the home of Dr. Seuss, and that the windblown cypress trees of Ellen Browning Scripps Park inspired his book, “The Lorax Tree.” Located at 1100 Coast Boulevard in La Jolla and offering sea views, picnic areas, and the chance of happening upon a romantic wedding, a visit to the park will enhance your La Jolla adventures.
Day 5: Ride the Big Dipper of Belmont Park in Mission Beach
Belmont Park has inhabited its beachfront acreage for nearly 10 years, and its famous Big Dipper wooden roller coaster has been its favorite attraction since it appeared on the landscape in 1927 and is still offering excitement to park visitors today! Also offering a large selection of other amusement park rides, midway games, and amazing spots to enjoy food and drink, Belmont Park will be one of your favorite family friendly adventures in California.
Day 6: Explore the Night Life of Pacific Beach
Pacific Beach is just about the epicenter of exciting San Diego area nightlife, and if the idea of exploring one of California’s most iconic night spots sounds like a good plan, we suggest you visit Maverick’s Beach Bar, located at 860 Garnet Avenue. Offering outdoor games, supersized televisions always tuned to the biggest games, and live music you won’t be able to avoid dancing to, Maverick’s is probably the spot that best reflects the vibe of California nightlife.
Day 7: Step into History in Old Town San Diego
We really couldn’t narrow down all the wonderful things you can do during your journey to the San Diego area. If we were to try, we would be writing an epic book of hundreds of pages. We can, however, guide you to some of our favorite spots, and in San Diego, Old Town never loses its luster. It offers restaurants you will never forget, shops you will happily break the bank for, and a small park that honors the early days of our town with a selection of buildings built in the 19th century.
