Where to Stay in Solana Beach: Beaches, Bluffs, and Cedros Avenue
Solana Beach is a compact coastal community, but location still makes a difference to the kind of vacation you’ll have.
Some properties are close to the beach and surrounding coastal neighborhoods, while others are farther inland. If you want to walk to the beach every morning, pay attention to the actual location of the rental and the available access points.
Fletcher Cove and Nearby Beach Access
Fletcher Cove sits at the western end of Lomas Santa Fe Drive and is one of the main public beach access points in Solana Beach.
The park above the beach has picnic areas and restrooms, making it a convenient meeting place for families and groups. It’s also a pleasant spot to spend some time overlooking the ocean.
Solana Beach has coastal bluffs, so access to the sand can involve stairs. Some condominium communities have their own beach access arrangements, while other rentals are closer to public access points.
When looking at an ocean-view property, don’t assume the view comes with direct beach access. We recommend checking exactly how guests reach the sand, particularly if you’re traveling with young children or anyone who may find stairs difficult.

Cedros Avenue Design District
When you’ve had enough beach time, Cedros Avenue is one of our favorite areas to recommend exploring in Solana Beach.
The Design District has independent shops, art galleries, home furnishings stores, and places to stop for coffee or lunch. It’s an enjoyable area to walk around, particularly if part of your group wants a morning away from the water.
The Solana Beach train station is also nearby, which can be convenient for visitors interested in using the COASTER or Amtrak to explore other parts of the region.
If being near shops and restaurants is important to your group, look closely at each rental’s location before booking. Not every Solana Beach property is within comfortable walking distance of Cedros Avenue.
Things to Do Around Solana Beach With a Larger Group
Solana Beach makes a convenient base for exploring coastal North County San Diego. Having a larger vacation home also gives everyone the flexibility to spend part of the day doing different things and meet up again later.
A beach morning at Fletcher Cove is an easy way to start the day. Afterward, some guests might head back to the rental for lunch while others explore Cedros Avenue.
Del Mar is just south of Solana Beach, with additional beaches, restaurants, and shopping areas. Cardiff-by-the-Sea and Encinitas are to the north, offering more coastal neighborhoods to explore.
Groups that enjoy surfing may want to look into local surf conditions and beach access, while families with younger children may prefer spending more time at beaches with convenient public facilities. Conditions change, so it’s worth checking local information before heading out.
The area’s location also makes day trips around San Diego County possible. Depending on your plans, you could visit additional coastal towns, spend time exploring San Diego, or make the most of the restaurants and activities closer to your rental.
With a four-bedroom home, there’s no need for the entire group to agree on every outing. A few people can head out early while others enjoy a quiet morning at the property.
After a full day, having somewhere everyone can gather for dinner or relax together is one of the reasons many groups prefer a vacation rental.
